Casorzo
About the wine
Casorzo, also known as Malvasia di Casorzo d’Asti, is a distinctive Piedmontese DOC centered on the aromatic Malvasia di Casorzo grape. This red, often sweet, wine is celebrated for its fragrant, floral, and fruity profile, with characteristic notes of rose, peach, apricot, and red berries. The appellation allows for three primary styles: a standard version (which may be slightly frizzante), a fully sparkling Spumante, and a concentrated, velvety Passito. The wine is produced primarily from Malvasia di Casorzo (minimum 90%), with small additions of local varieties like Barbera, Freisa, or Grignolino permitted to round out the blend. The production zone is situated in the rolling hills of the Monferrato area, spanning parts of the Asti and Alessandria provinces. These wines are known for their elegance and aromatic intensity, reflecting the unique clay-calcareous soils of the region. The DOC strictly prohibits the use of terms like 'Riserva' or 'Superiore', emphasizing the wine's identity as a fresh, aromatic expression of its terroir.
