Castelfranco Emilia
About the wine
The Castelfranco Emilia IGT covers a production area spanning the provinces of Bologna and Modena in the Emilia-Romagna region. Historically significant for its white wine production, the denomination focuses on wines made primarily from the Montù, Moscato, and Trebbiano grape varieties. The disciplinare allows for the production of still, frizzante, and partially fermented musts, all characterized by a pale straw-yellow color, delicate floral and fruity aromas, and a fresh, sapid profile. These wines are intended for early consumption, typically within the year following the harvest, reflecting the traditional winemaking practices of the Po Valley. The area's alluvial soils and continental climate, influenced by the proximity to the Apennines, provide the ideal conditions for these white varieties. The IGT is highly permissive regarding blending, allowing up to 40% of other regional white grapes for the 'Bianco' typology, while varietal-specific wines require at least 85% of the named grape.
