Colli d'Imola
About the wine
The Colli d'Imola DOC, established in 1997, covers a diverse viticultural area in the province of Bologna, Emilia-Romagna. The denomination is notable for its flexibility, allowing for a wide range of styles including still, frizzante, and riserva wines. The base ampelography relies on non-aromatic grape varieties suitable for the region, with specific varietal wines (Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Barbera, Trebbiano, and Chardonnay) requiring at least 85% of the named grape. The terroir ranges from fertile alluvial plains near the Via Emilia to the calcareous, clay-rich soils of the lower Apennine foothills. This environmental diversity allows for the production of both light, fresh white wines and more structured, complex reds. The regulations emphasize traditional practices, including specific aging requirements for Riserva typologies, ensuring a balance between historical winemaking methods and modern quality standards.
