Colli di Faenza
About the wine
The Colli di Faenza DOC, established in 1997, covers a diverse viticultural area in the Emilia-Romagna region, spanning the provinces of Ravenna and Forlì-Cesena. The denomination is notable for its blend of traditional Italian varieties and international grapes, reflecting a post-phylloxera evolution in the local landscape. The wines are produced in a range of styles, including whites based on Chardonnay and Trebbiano Romagnolo, and reds centered on Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese. The terroir is characterized by the 'Marnoso-arenacea' geological formation, with clay-rich soils and varying altitudes that dictate the placement of specific varieties: warmer, sun-exposed slopes are reserved for structured reds, while cooler, higher-altitude sites favor aromatic whites. The resulting wines are generally marked by good structure, balanced acidity, and distinct fruit-forward profiles, with the Riserva versions of the red wines benefiting from extended aging to develop complexity and spice notes.
