The Colli Romagna Centrale DOC, established in 2001, encompasses a diverse range of wines produced in the hilly areas of the Forlì-Cesena province. This appellation bridges traditional Romagna viticulture—centered on Sangiovese and Trebbiano—with the successful integration of international varieties like Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. The region is defined by the marnoso-arenacea (marl-sandstone) geological formation, which provides excellent drainage and mineral complexity. The wines are characterized by their structural integrity; the reds, particularly the Sangiovese and Cabernet-based blends, often exhibit deep color, herbaceous notes, and significant body, while the whites range from crisp, floral expressions to more structured, wood-aged styles. The DOC allows for 'Riserva' designations for several types, requiring extended aging to enhance complexity. By balancing historical local practices with modern viticultural zoning, the Colli Romagna Centrale DOC offers a nuanced representation of the central Romagna terroir, emphasizing site-specific suitability for each varietal.

The production area is located in the province of Forlì-Cesena, covering the entire territory of Borghi, Castrocaro-Terra del Sole, Civitella, Dovadola, Galeata, Meldola, Mercato Saraceno, Modigliana, Montiano, Predappio, Roncofreddo, Rocca San Casciano, S. Sofia, Sarsina, Sogliano, and the southern portions of Bertinoro, Cesena, Forlì, Forlimpopoli, Longiano, and Savignano sul Rubicone.
