Colline Novaresi
About the wine
The Colline Novaresi DOC covers a diverse viticultural area in northeastern Piedmont, nestled between the Sesia and Ticino rivers. This appellation is notable for its focus on traditional local varieties, with Nebbiolo (locally known as Spanna) serving as the backbone for the red, rosato, and novello typologies. The DOC also highlights specific varietal wines, including Vespolina, Uva Rara (Bonarda Novarese), Barbera, and Croatina, alongside a crisp white wine made from 100% Erbaluce. The terroir, characterized by morainic and alluvial soils, imparts a distinct mineral quality to the wines. These wines are generally known for their harmony, freshness, and authentic expression of the Novara hills, often displaying the characteristic acidity and structure associated with the region's cool-climate viticulture. The regulation allows for the 'vigna' mention for single-vineyard bottlings, emphasizing the importance of site-specific terroir within this historic wine-growing landscape.
