About the wine

The Colline Saluzzesi DOC, established in 1996, represents a unique viticultural pocket in the province of Cuneo, Piedmont. This appellation is defined by its focus on local, historic varieties, including the rare Chatus (historically known as Nebbiolo di Dronero), Pelaverga, and Quagliano, alongside the ubiquitous Barbera. The production zone is characterized by hilly, well-drained soils and a temperate-cool climate that favors the development of delicate, aromatic profiles. The wines range from fresh, fruity reds to the distinctive, sweet, and sometimes sparkling Quagliano. The Pelaverga here is distinct from the Pelaverga Piccolo of Verduno, offering a unique expression of the Saluzzo hills. The DOC emphasizes traditional cultivation methods, such as Guyot training and strict density requirements, to ensure quality in this challenging, mountainous terrain. It is a niche appellation that preserves the biodiversity of the Piedmontese foothills.
