Emilia-Romagna
About the wine
The Emilia-Romagna DOC is a versatile appellation centered on the Pignoletto grape, which must constitute at least 85% of the blend. The region spans the provinces of Bologna, Modena, and Ravenna, encompassing both fertile plains and the foothills of the Apennines. This geographic diversity allows for a wide range of styles, from fresh, approachable still wines to lively frizzante and spumante versions, as well as concentrated passito and late-harvest (vendemmia tardiva) dessert wines. The wines are characterized by their pale straw color, delicate floral aromas of hawthorn and jasmine, and a palate defined by crisp orchard fruit notes like apple and pear. The DOC emphasizes the historical "arbustum gallicum" viticultural tradition and the distinct influence of the Apennine climate, which provides the necessary diurnal temperature shifts to balance acidity and aromatics. It is a quintessential expression of the region's long-standing commitment to high-quality, food-friendly white wines.

Production & aging
The production area covers the administrative territories of numerous communes across three provinces: Bologna (including Imola, Zola Predosa, and Valsamoggia), Modena (including Modena, Sassuolo, and Vignola), and Ravenna (including Faenza and Brisighella). The zone transitions from the alluvial plains of the Po Valley to the Apennine foothills, with vineyards primarily situated below 700 meters in altitude, benefiting from varied sedimentary soils and a sub-continental climate.
