Freisa d'Asti is a versatile Piedmontese DOC that showcases the unique character of the Freisa grape, a historic variety deeply rooted in the Monferrato hills. Known for its adaptability, the wine is produced in a wide range of styles, including still, frizzante, and spumante versions, as well as a more structured 'Superiore' typology. The wines are typically characterized by a ruby red color, vibrant acidity, and distinct aromatic notes of raspberry and rose, often accompanied by a characteristic tannic grip. While historically produced in various sweetness levels, the modern DOC emphasizes the grape's ability to express the terroir of the Asti province.
