About the wine

Freisa di Chieri is a distinctive Piedmontese DOC centered on the historic hills surrounding the city of Turin. The appellation is defined by the versatile Freisa grape, which must constitute at least 90% of the blend. Historically noted for its robust, tannic, and acidic profile, the wine is produced in a wide range of styles, including dry (secco), sweet (dolce), frizzante, and spumante. The 'Superiore' designation requires a minimum of 12 months of aging, often incorporating wood maturation to soften the grape's naturally assertive tannins. The wines are characterized by delicate floral aromas of rose and violet, often accompanied by signature raspberry notes. While once a staple of local home production, the DOC, established in 1973, has revitalized the region's viticultural heritage, emphasizing the unique limestone-clay soils of the Chierese hills to produce wines that balance traditional acidity with increasing elegance and harmony.
