Malvasia di Castelnuovo Don Bosco
About the wine
Malvasia di Castelnuovo Don Bosco is a distinctive, aromatic, and sweet red wine produced in a small enclave of the northern Monferrato hills in Piedmont. The appellation covers both still and spumante styles, characterized by a vibrant cherry-red color and a fragrant, grape-forward bouquet. Crafted primarily from Malvasia di Schierano and/or Malvasia Nera Lunga, the wine is known for its low alcohol content, typically ranging between 5.5% and 7% effective alcohol by volume, making it a delicate and refreshing choice. The production zone, situated at higher altitudes than much of the surrounding Asti region, features clay-limestone soils that contribute to the wine's aromatic profile. The inclusion of up to 15% Freisa adds structural complexity to the blend. This DOC is strictly regulated to preserve its traditional, light-bodied, and sweet character, forbidding the use of terms like 'Riserva' or 'Superiore' to maintain its identity as a fresh, immediate expression of the territory.
