Ortrugo dei Colli Piacentini *
About the wine
Ortrugo dei Colli Piacentini is a distinctive white wine appellation from the Emilia-Romagna region, centered on the native Ortrugo grape. This DOC is unique for its focus on a single, often overlooked variety that produces light, straw-colored wines with characteristic greenish reflections. The wines are produced in three primary styles: still (tranquillo), frizzante, and spumante. They are defined by a delicate, subtle bouquet and a signature slightly bitter finish, which provides a refreshing counterpoint to their crisp acidity. The production zone, nestled in the hills of Piacenza, benefits from clay-limestone soils that contribute to the wine's mineral backbone. Whether enjoyed as a lively, effervescent frizzante or a more structured spumante, Ortrugo represents a quintessential expression of Piacentine viticulture, offering an elegant and approachable profile that pairs exceptionally well with local cured meats and regional antipasti.
