Ravenna
About the wine
The Ravenna IGT covers the entire province of Ravenna in the Emilia-Romagna region. The area spans from the Adriatic coast across fertile plains to the Apennine foothills. The region has a long viticultural history dating back to Roman times, characterized by a diverse range of soil types, including clay-rich and sandy alluvial deposits. The IGT is highly permissive, allowing for the production of red, white, and rosé wines in still, vivace, frizzante, and spumante styles. The disciplinare emphasizes the adaptation of specific varietals to the varying bioclimatic conditions, ranging from coastal areas with higher heat accumulation to cooler hilly zones. Producers utilize a wide array of both international and indigenous grapes, such as Sangiovese, Trebbiano, and Famoso, to create wines that reflect the local tradition of freshness and sapidity. The IGT provides a flexible framework for winemakers to express the terroir of the Romagna province.
