Rubino di Cantavenna
About the wine
Rubino di Cantavenna is a distinctive red wine from the Monferrato hills in the province of Alessandria, Piedmont. This DOC is defined by a specific blend dominated by Barbera (75-90%), which provides the wine's characteristic acidity and structure, complemented by Grignolino and Freisa (up to 25%), which contribute finesse and vivacity. The production area, centered around the communes of Gabiano, Moncestino, Villamiroglio, and parts of Camino, features calcareous, silty-marly soils and a climate marked by significant diurnal temperature shifts. These conditions, combined with mandatory aging until at least December 31st of the year following the harvest, result in a dry, harmonious, and full-bodied wine. Visually, it presents a clear ruby red color that evolves toward garnet with age, while the nose offers vinous notes that develop ethereal qualities over time. It is a testament to the historical viticultural traditions of the Monferrato Casalese, balancing the robust nature of Barbera with the more nuanced character of its blending partners.
