Sizzano
About the wine
Sizzano is a refined red wine appellation from the Novara hills in Piedmont, centered on the commune of Sizzano. Historically noted for its quality since the Renaissance and championed by Camillo Benso, Count of Cavour, this DOC represents a classic expression of the Alto Piemonte terroir. The wine is a blend dominated by Nebbiolo (locally known as Spanna), which provides structure and longevity, complemented by the aromatic and softening qualities of Vespolina and Uva Rara (Bonarda novarese). The resulting wine is characterized by a ruby red color that evolves toward garnet, offering a vinous bouquet with delicate violet notes. On the palate, it is dry, sapid, and harmonious, with the Riserva typology adding a characteristic slightly bitter finish. The production requires significant aging—22 months for the base wine and 34 months for the Riserva—ensuring a sophisticated profile that balances the power of Nebbiolo with the elegance of the secondary varieties.

Production & aging
The production zone is strictly limited to the administrative territory of the commune of Sizzano in the province of Novara. The vineyards are situated on hilly terrain at altitudes between 200 and 350 meters above sea level, characterized by morainic soils composed of clay, silt, and sand, which provide the necessary drainage and mineral profile for high-quality viticulture.
