Terre di Veleja
About the wine
Terre di Veleja IGT is a wine denomination located in the province of Piacenza, Emilia-Romagna. The area is historically significant, with viticultural roots dating back to the Roman era, specifically linked to the ancient city of Veleia. The region produces a diverse range of wines, including white, red, and rosato, which can be still, frizzante, or partially fermented musts. Specific varietal wines are also permitted, such as those made from Malvasia, Barbera, and Bonarda. The climate is temperate subcontinental, benefiting from the hilly topography that provides protection from extreme temperatures and promotes healthy grape maturation. The soil composition, often calcareous and rich in marine sediments, contributes to the distinct character of these wines. The disciplinare emphasizes traditional cultivation methods and strict adherence to the defined geographical boundaries of the Piacenza hills to maintain the historical and qualitative integrity of the denomination.
