Valli Ossolane
About the wine
The Valli Ossolane DOC represents a unique expression of high-altitude viticulture in the northernmost reaches of Piedmont, within the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola province. This appellation is defined by its rugged, mountainous terrain and a long-standing tradition of terrace cultivation, often utilizing the traditional 'topia' (pergola) system. The wines are characterized by their mountain climate influence, resulting in significant diurnal temperature shifts that favor aromatic complexity and structural integrity. The red wines, particularly those based on the local Nebbiolo clone known as 'Prunent', offer a distinct profile of red fruit, floral notes, and firm tannins, reflecting the mineral-rich, well-drained soils of the alpine valleys. The white wines, led by Chardonnay, provide a crisp, balanced counterpoint. This DOC is a testament to the resilience of mountain viticulture, where the interaction between ancient glacial soils and human intervention creates wines of notable character and longevity.
