About the wine

Colli Bolognesi Pignoletto DOCG represents the pinnacle of the Grechetto Gentile grape (locally known as Alionzina) in the hills surrounding Bologna. This denomination encompasses a diverse range of styles, from vibrant frizzante and spumante versions to the more structured, still 'Superiore' and 'Classico' typologies. The wines are defined by their bright, straw-yellow color and a delicate aromatic profile characterized by white flowers like jasmine and hawthorn, complemented by crisp notes of pear, apple, and subtle citrus. The 'Classico' designation, reserved for the most traditional and historic production zones, requires a higher percentage of Grechetto Gentile and longer aging, resulting in a more complex, harmonious wine with occasional hints of almond and vanilla. These wines are celebrated for their freshness, sapidity, and distinctively clean, often slightly bitter finish, reflecting the unique pedoclimatic conditions of the Bolognese Apennine foothills.

The production area spans the hilly territories of the Bologna province, including communes such as Monte San Pietro, Sasso Marconi, Marzabotto, Pianoro, and parts of Bologna, Casalecchio di Reno, Monterenzio, S. Lazzaro di Savena, Valsamoggia, and Zola Predosa, extending into the Savignano sul Panaro commune in the Modena province. The 'Classico' sub-zone is restricted to the most traditional, historic sites within these communes.
