Barco Reale di Carmignano
About the wine
Barco Reale di Carmignano is the approachable, early-drinking counterpart to the prestigious Carmignano DOCG. Produced in the same historic Tuscan hills, this DOC benefits from the same unique ampelographic blend—centered on Sangiovese with significant contributions from Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon—that has defined the area since the 18th-century Medici decree. Unlike its DOCG sibling, Barco Reale is not required to undergo long wood aging, resulting in a wine that emphasizes freshness, vibrant fruit, and immediate drinkability. The appellation also includes a traditional Rosato, historically known as 'Vin Ruspo,' which captures the essence of the local terroir through a distinct, structured profile. It is a wine of elegance and harmony, reflecting the specific microclimate of the Montalbano chain, where the influence of the Apennines and the proximity to the Arno valley create ideal conditions for consistent, high-quality viticulture.

Production & aging
The production area is strictly limited to the hilly territories of the communes of Carmignano and Poggio a Caiano, located in the province of Prato, Tuscany. The zone is characterized by the Montalbano chain, featuring soils composed of marl, limestone (alberese), and sandstone, which provide excellent drainage and thermal regulation for the vines.
