Val d'Arno di Sopra DOC, also known as Valdarno di Sopra, is a versatile Tuscan appellation covering a wide range of styles, from crisp whites and structured reds to traditional Vin Santo and high-quality sparkling rosés. The region is characterized by its focus on both international varieties like Chardonnay, Merlot, and Syrah, and traditional Tuscan grapes such as Sangiovese, Canaiolo, and Trebbiano. The wines are defined by their specific terroir, with vineyards situated at altitudes above 170 meters. The reds, particularly the Riserva versions, are known for their complexity and aging potential, while the whites offer delicate, mineral-driven profiles. The inclusion of diverse monovarietal options allows producers to highlight the specific characteristics of individual grapes, making this DOC a dynamic representative of modern Tuscan viticulture that balances innovation with regional tradition.

Production & aging

The production area spans the provinces of Arezzo and Florence. It includes the entire territory of the communes of Cavriglia, Montevarchi, Bucine, Civitella in Val di Chiana, Castelfranco-Piandiscò, Terranuova Bracciolini, Loro Ciuffenna, San Giovanni Valdarno, Castiglion Fibocchi, Laterina-Pergine Valdarno, and parts of Arezzo in the Arezzo province, as well as Figline e Incisa Valdarno, Reggello, and Rignano sull’Arno in the Florence province.
