Orcia
About the wine
The Orcia DOC, established in 2000, represents a refined viticultural territory in the province of Siena, nestled between the renowned zones of Montalcino and Montepulciano. The denomination focuses on the Sangiovese grape, which serves as the backbone for both the standard Orcia red and the more focused 'Orcia Sangiovese' typology. The wines are characterized by their elegance, balance, and distinct territorial identity, often displaying a harmonious structure and a savory, dry profile. Beyond the reds, the DOC includes a crisp Bianco (primarily Trebbiano), a delicate Rosato, and a traditional Vinsanto, which undergoes a long, oxidative aging process in small wooden casks. The region's rolling hills, characterized by clay-rich soils and a Mediterranean-continental climate, provide an ideal environment for producing wines that reflect the historical and cultural heritage of the Val d'Orcia, emphasizing quality through controlled yields and traditional winemaking practices.
