About the wine

Bolgheri Sassicaia is a singular and prestigious Italian DOC, representing the pinnacle of the Bolgheri area in Tuscany. Unlike the broader Bolgheri DOC, this appellation is restricted to a specific, highly-vetted production zone within the commune of Castagneto Carducci. The wine is defined by a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant blend (minimum 80%), which thrives in the unique, stony soils—from which the name 'Sassicaia' is derived—and the maritime-influenced climate. The resulting wine is celebrated for its structural elegance, aromatic complexity, and remarkable aging potential. The production process is strictly regulated, requiring a minimum of 24 months of aging, with at least 18 months in small oak barrels (barriques). This meticulous approach produces a robust, harmonious red that balances deep fruit notes with the savory, Mediterranean-scented character of the Tuscan coast. It remains a benchmark for Bordeaux-style viticulture in Italy.

Production & aging

The production zone is strictly limited to a specific area within the administrative territory of the commune of Castagneto Carducci, in the province of Livorno. This coastal Tuscan zone is characterized by its unique pedoclimatic conditions, featuring stony, well-drained soils and a Mediterranean climate that benefits from sea breezes, creating an ideal environment for the cultivation of Cabernet varieties.
