Rosso di Montepulciano
About the wine
Rosso di Montepulciano is a versatile, approachable red wine from the hills of Tuscany, specifically the commune of Montepulciano in the province of Siena. Often considered the younger sibling to the prestigious Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, it is crafted primarily from the local Sangiovese biotype known as Prugnolo Gentile (minimum 70%). The wine is designed to highlight the primary fruit characteristics of the grape—typically notes of cherry and violet—resulting in a ruby-red wine that is dry, persistent, and lightly tannic. Unlike its longer-aged counterpart, Rosso di Montepulciano is released for consumption early, starting from March 1st of the year following the harvest. It reflects the unique terroir of the region, characterized by Pliocene marine sands and clays, which impart elegance and structure. It is a quintessential expression of Tuscan viticulture, balancing historical tradition with modern, fruit-forward winemaking techniques.
