Montecucco
About the wine
The Montecucco DOC, located in the southern reaches of Tuscany, represents a high-quality viticultural area nestled between the slopes of Mount Amiata and the Ombrone river valley. The appellation is defined by its diverse soils—ranging from volcanic debris to sandstone and marl—and a Mediterranean climate characterized by significant diurnal temperature shifts and cooling breezes from the Tyrrhenian Sea. The flagship Montecucco Rosso is primarily Sangiovese-based, offering a structured, harmonious profile that reflects the rugged, hilly terrain of the Grosseto province. The DOC also encompasses a range of styles, including crisp Vermentino, elegant Rosato, and traditional Vin Santo, all of which benefit from the area's long history of viticulture dating back to the Etruscan era. The wines are noted for their balance, depth, and distinct territorial identity, strictly regulated to ensure that the unique character of the Montecucco landscape is preserved in every bottle.
