Bianchello del Metauro
About the wine
Bianchello del Metauro is a historic white wine denomination from the Marche region, centered on the Metauro river valley. The wine is defined by the Bianchello (locally known as Biancame) grape, which must constitute at least 95% of the blend. Historically praised by figures like Sante Lancerio and Andrea Bacci, the wine is celebrated for its high drinkability, freshness, and delicate floral aromatics. The production area spans from the Adriatic coast to the pre-Apennine hills near Urbino, benefiting from a temperate climate and diverse soil compositions ranging from clay-heavy to sandy-alluvial. The DOC includes standard, Superiore, Spumante, and Passito typologies. The standard and Superiore versions are typically dry, crisp, and harmonious, often displaying light straw-yellow hues and subtle notes of linden and meadow flowers. It is a quintessential regional wine, designed to be enjoyed young, reflecting the unique terroir of the Metauro basin.
