Pergola
About the wine
The Pergola DOC, located in the Marche region, is centered on the cultivation of a specific clone of the Aleatico grape, historically known in the area as 'Vernaccia di Pergola'. This denomination encompasses a diverse range of styles, including still red wines, rosés (also frizzante or spumante), and a notable passito. The wines are characterized by their brilliant ruby color and a complex aromatic profile, often featuring floral notes of rose and violet alongside red berry fruit. On the palate, they are typically harmonious and full-bodied, with soft tannins providing a smooth, rounded mouthfeel. The production is strictly tied to the hilly terrain of the Cesano river valley, where the pedoclimatic conditions—characterized by siliceous and calcareous soils and a protected, sunny exposure—allow the Aleatico grape to express its full potential. The DOC represents a successful recovery of a traditional viticultural heritage that had nearly vanished following the phylloxera crisis, now revitalized through modern, quality-focused viticulture.
