Rosso Piceno
About the wine
Rosso Piceno is a versatile DOC from the Marche region, defined by a classic blend of Montepulciano and Sangiovese. This combination creates a wine that balances the structure and depth of Montepulciano with the elegance and acidity of Sangiovese. The appellation spans a broad, hilly territory between the Apennines and the Adriatic Sea, excluding the specific Rosso Conero zone. The wines typically display a ruby red color, delicate aromas, and a dry, harmonious palate. The 'Superiore' designation, produced in a more restricted southern sub-zone, represents the higher tier of the denomination, offering greater complexity and body, often with subtle notes of spice or cocoa. With roots tracing back to ancient Greek and Etruscan influence, Rosso Piceno remains a cornerstone of Marche viticulture, reflecting a long history of hillside cultivation and traditional winemaking practices.

Production & aging
The production area covers a vast hilly territory in the Marche region, stretching from the Pesaro-Ancona provincial border in the north to the Tronto river (Abruzzo border) in the south. It encompasses parts of the provinces of Ancona, Ascoli Piceno, Fermo, and Macerata, situated between the Apennine mountains and the Adriatic coast. The 'Superiore' sub-zone is restricted to a specific, highly-vocated area in the southern part of the region.
