Marche
About the wine
The Marche IGT covers the entire administrative territory of the Marche region, spanning from the Adriatic coast to the Apennine foothills. Established in 1995, this designation provides a broad framework for a diverse range of wines, including still (white, red, rosato), sparkling (Spumante and Frizzante), and dessert styles (Passito and late-harvest). The region's viticulture is defined by a Mediterranean-to-sub-Mediterranean climate and varied soils, primarily calcareous-clay and arenaceous. The disciplinare allows for a wide array of international and indigenous grape varieties, reflecting the region's historical evolution from ancient Piceni and Roman traditions to modern viticultural practices. Producers have significant flexibility in blending, provided the grapes are authorized for cultivation in the Marche region. The IGT serves as a versatile category for wines that express the unique terroir of the central Italian Adriatic coast, emphasizing freshness and aromatic clarity in whites and structured, harmonious profiles in reds.
