I Terreni di Sanseverino
About the wine
The I Terreni di Sanseverino DOC, established in 2004, represents the viticultural heritage of the San Severino Marche commune in the province of Macerata. This appellation focuses on red wines that reflect the historical 'Terreni' agricultural model of the region. The wines are primarily based on the local Vernaccia Nera grape, which thrives in the area's sub-Apennine climate, or Montepulciano for the 'Moro' typology. The production is characterized by a mandatory aging period of at least 18 to 24 months, ensuring structural complexity. The range includes a standard Rosso, a more structured Rosso Superiore, a concentrated Rosso Passito, and the Montepulciano-dominant Moro. These wines are known for their ruby-red color, sapid and harmonic profiles, and a deep connection to the local terroir, which features calcareous soils and significant diurnal temperature shifts. The DOC serves as a modern revival of centuries-old winemaking traditions, emphasizing quality through controlled yields and specific aging requirements.
