Serrapetrona
About the wine
The Serrapetrona DOC, located in the Marche region, represents a distinct expression of the Vernaccia Nera grape. Unlike its more famous sibling, the Vernaccia di Serrapetrona DOCG—which is known for its sparkling, partially dried-grape process—the Serrapetrona DOC is a still, dry red wine. It is crafted primarily from Vernaccia Nera (minimum 85%), which thrives in the high-altitude, stony, and calcareous soils of the Macerata province. The wine is characterized by a ruby red color, a delicate bouquet, and a harmonious, dry palate with notable notes of wild cherry, black currant, and subtle smokiness. With a mandatory minimum aging period of 10 months, it offers a refined, structured profile that reflects the unique mountain and high-hill environment of its limited production zone. This DOC serves as a testament to the historical viticultural traditions of the Serrapetrona area, emphasizing the varietal's ability to produce elegant, age-worthy still wines.
