Lacrima di Morro
About the wine
Lacrima di Morro d'Alba is a distinctive red wine from the Marche region, centered around the town of Morro d'Alba in the province of Ancona. The wine is named after the Lacrima grape, which is known for its thin skin that can rupture at maturity, causing the juice to 'weep' (lacrimare). This variety produces highly aromatic wines characterized by intense floral notes, particularly rose and violet, alongside red berry fruits like cherry and strawberry. The DOC covers three distinct styles: a standard red, a 'Superiore' version with lower yields and higher alcohol, and a 'Passito' dessert wine made from dried grapes. The production area benefits from a temperate climate influenced by the nearby Adriatic Sea, which moderates temperatures and supports the delicate aromatic profile of the Lacrima grape. These wines are known for their soft, velvety texture and unique, recognizable bouquet, representing a niche but historically significant viticultural tradition in central Italy.
