Bianco di Pitigliano
About the wine
Bianco di Pitigliano is a historic Tuscan DOC, recognized in 1966, centered on the volcanic soils of the Grosseto province. The wines are primarily based on Trebbiano Toscano (locally known as Procanico), which must constitute at least 40% of the blend. The appellation includes standard white, Superiore, Spumante, and a traditional Vin Santo. The wines are known for their pale straw color, delicate aromas, and a characteristic dry, fresh, and slightly bitter finish. The production area is defined by its unique tuffaceous plateaus and hilly terrain, where viticulture dates back to Etruscan times. The use of traditional cellar techniques, often involving aging in tuff-carved caves, remains a hallmark of the region. The Superiore version offers more structure and higher alcohol, while the Vin Santo is a complex, long-aged dessert wine produced through natural drying of the grapes.
