Capalbio
About the wine
The Capalbio DOC, established in the southern Maremma region of Tuscany, encompasses a diverse range of wines including red, white, rosé, and Vin Santo. The red wines are primarily Sangiovese-based, often blended with other permitted Tuscan red varieties, resulting in dry, harmonious, and tannic profiles. The white wines rely on Trebbiano Toscano, while varietal versions of Vermentino, Sangiovese, and Cabernet Sauvignon are also produced, each requiring at least 85% of the named grape. The region’s Mediterranean climate, characterized by mild temperatures and cooling sea breezes, combined with calcareous and sandy soils, provides an ideal environment for viticulture that dates back to Etruscan times. The wines are noted for their balance and typical Maremma character, with the 'Riserva' designation requiring a minimum of 24 months of aging. The appellation reflects a long-standing tradition of quality production in the Grosseto province, emphasizing the historical and environmental synergy between the land and the vine.
