About the wine

The Grance Senesi DOC, established in 2010, encompasses a historic viticultural area in the province of Siena, specifically within the communes of Rapolano Terme, Murlo, Asciano, Monteroni d'Arbia, and parts of Sovicille. Named after the medieval 'Grance'—fortified farms managed by the Santa Maria della Scala hospital—the denomination reflects a deep-rooted Tuscan tradition. The wines are diverse, ranging from Sangiovese-based reds to Trebbiano and Malvasia-based whites, including Passito and Vendemmia Tardiva styles. The red wines are characterized by their structure and aging potential, often showing ruby hues that evolve toward garnet, while the whites are noted for their freshness and mineral qualities. The production zone benefits from hilly terrain and specific soil compositions that favor quality viticulture. The DOC also permits varietal wines such as Canaiolo, Sangiovese, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon, ensuring a broad expression of the local terroir.
