About the wine

Montecarlo DOC, located in the province of Lucca, is a historic Tuscan appellation known for its unique tradition of blending local varieties with French grapes. Established in 1969, the DOC owes its distinctive character to 19th-century viticulturist Giulio Magnani, who introduced Bordeaux and Rhône varieties to complement the traditional Trebbiano Toscano. The white wines are typically elegant and harmonious, while the reds—based on Sangiovese—are structured and sapid. The appellation also produces high-quality Vin Santo and Vin Santo Occhio di Pernice, characterized by traditional drying methods and long aging in small wooden caratelli. The wines are noted for their balance and historical prestige, having once been favored by the Medici court and the Vatican. The production area, characterized by rolling hills and Mediterranean climate, allows for a diverse range of styles, including varietal wines like Vermentino, Sauvignon, and Syrah.
