Montescudaio
About the wine
The Montescudaio DOC, established in 1976, represents the viticultural heritage of the lower Val di Cecina in the province of Pisa. This appellation is characterized by a diverse range of wines, including reds based on Sangiovese, varietal wines (Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sangiovese, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, and Vermentino), and a traditional Vin Santo. The region benefits from a Mediterranean climate with cooling sea breezes, which, combined with varied soil compositions ranging from clay to iron-rich medium-textured soils, produces wines with distinct balance and aromatic clarity. The red wines are known for their structure and harmony, while the whites offer crisp, fruity profiles. The inclusion of international varieties alongside traditional Tuscan grapes reflects the area's evolution toward modern, high-quality production while maintaining deep historical roots that date back to the Etruscan era.
