About the wine

Moscadello di Montalcino is a historic Tuscan white wine denomination centered on the Moscato Bianco grape. Historically celebrated by figures like Pietro Aretino and Ugo Foscolo, this DOC represents a rare white wine tradition within the predominantly red-wine-focused territory of Montalcino. The wines are produced in three distinct styles: 'Tranquillo' (still), 'Frizzante' (lightly sparkling), and the prestigious 'Vendemmia Tardiva' (late harvest). The 'Tranquillo' and 'Frizzante' versions are characterized by their delicate, aromatic profile and fresh, sweet character, making them ideal for youthful consumption. The 'Vendemmia Tardiva' undergoes partial drying of the grapes, resulting in a more complex, golden-hued wine with greater aging potential and concentrated aromatics. All styles are defined by the specific pedoclimatic conditions of the Montalcino hills, where limestone and sandstone soils, combined with significant diurnal temperature shifts, ensure healthy, perfectly ripened grapes. The denomination strictly prohibits the use of laudatory terms like 'Riserva' or 'Superiore', maintaining a focus on the purity of the Moscato expression.
