Pomino
About the wine
Pomino is a distinctive Tuscan DOC located in the high-altitude hills of the Sieve Valley, near Rufina. Historically influenced by 19th-century French viticultural techniques introduced by the Albizi family, the appellation is known for its unique microclimate and high-elevation vineyards (up to 800m for whites). The DOC covers a wide range of styles, including elegant whites based on Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio, and Chardonnay, and structured reds dominated by Sangiovese, often blended with Pinot Nero and Merlot. The region's cool climate and marly-arenaceous soils produce wines with notable freshness, aromatic complexity, and longevity. The portfolio includes Riserva versions, late-harvest (Vendemmia Tardiva) wines, traditional Vin Santo, and high-quality sparkling wines (Spumante) produced via the traditional method. It represents a sophisticated, non-traditional facet of Tuscan winemaking, emphasizing terroir-driven finesse over the typical regional power.
