Valdichiana toscana
About the wine
The Valdichiana Toscana DOC covers a diverse range of wines produced in the hilly landscapes between the provinces of Arezzo and Siena. Historically significant since the Etruscan era, the region benefits from a Mediterranean climate and soils rich in Pliocene sands and clays. The appellation is notable for its versatility, encompassing fresh, aromatic whites (often based on Trebbiano, Chardonnay, and Grechetto), vibrant Sangiovese-led reds, and the traditional Vin Santo. The whites are typically characterized by delicate, neutral profiles with subtle almond notes, while the reds offer bright, fruity, and harmonious expressions of Sangiovese. Vin Santo, the region's most prestigious typology, undergoes a traditional drying process and extended aging in small wooden casks, resulting in complex, velvety wines ranging from dry to sweet. The DOC emphasizes the historical link between the land and its viticultural practices, maintaining a balance between modern production techniques and the long-standing Tuscan tradition of quality winemaking.
