Valdinievole
About the wine
The Valdinievole DOC, located in the province of Pistoia, represents a historic Tuscan viticultural area known since the Middle Ages for its high-quality wines. The denomination covers a range of styles, including white wines based on Trebbiano Toscano and reds centered on Sangiovese and Canaiolo Nero. The area benefits from a unique microclimate influenced by the Padule di Fucecchio basin and sea breezes, which mitigate temperatures and favor optimal grape ripening. The white wines are typically fresh and harmonious, while the reds are structured and intense, often utilizing the traditional 'Governo all'uso Toscano' technique. The DOC also includes a classic Vinsanto, produced from dried grapes, showcasing the region's dedication to traditional Tuscan winemaking. The area acts as a reservoir for indigenous varieties, maintaining a distinct identity compared to other Sangiovese-dominant Tuscan regions.
