Verdicchio di Matelica Riserva
About the wine
Verdicchio di Matelica Riserva represents the pinnacle of the Verdicchio grape in the Marche region, distinguished by its unique inland, continental microclimate. Unlike its coastal counterparts, the Matelica valley experiences significant diurnal temperature shifts and lacks maritime influence, resulting in a wine with higher acidity and a more austere, structured profile in its youth. This Riserva, which must undergo a minimum of 18 months of aging, is celebrated for its longevity and capacity for complex evolution. Upon release, it displays a straw-yellow hue and a sophisticated bouquet featuring notes of toasted almond, citrus, and honey. On the palate, it is dry, harmonious, and full-bodied, often showing a characteristic, elegant bitter finish. The combination of high-altitude vineyards and mineral-rich, calcareous-clay soils creates a terroir-driven wine that is both opulent and remarkably age-worthy, standing as a testament to the historical viticultural tradition of the upper Esino valley.
