Alto Livenza
About the wine
The Alto Livenza IGT covers a cross-regional production area spanning the provinces of Treviso (Veneto) and Pordenone (Friuli-Venezia Giulia). Established in 1995, this denomination allows for a wide range of wine styles, including white, red, and rosato, which can be produced as still, frizzante, or novello wines. The region is characterized by alluvial soils rich in gravel, deposited by the Livenza River and alpine glacial activity. The climate is temperate, benefiting from the protective influence of the Dolomites and the proximity to the Adriatic Sea. The disciplinare permits a vast array of international and indigenous grape varieties, reflecting the diverse viticultural heritage of the two provinces. Wines are noted for their balance, with whites often displaying freshness and sapidity, while reds exhibit complex fruit profiles and structured tannins. The IGT serves as a significant production district in Northeast Italy, historically linked to trade routes toward Northern Europe.
