Custoza
About the wine
Custoza is a distinctive white wine appellation from the morainic hills south of Lake Garda in the Veneto region. Historically recognized as 'Bianco di Custoza', the DOC is defined by a complex, multi-varietal blend that emphasizes freshness, drinkability, and a delicate aromatic profile. The core of the blend relies on Garganega, Bianca Fernanda (a local clone of Cortese), Trebbiano Toscano, and Tocai Friulano, which together must constitute at least 70% of the wine. This composition allows producers to balance the floral and fruity notes of Garganega with the structure and aromatic nuances of the other varieties. The terroir, characterized by mineral-rich glacial soils and a temperate microclimate influenced by the lake, imparts a signature sapidity and elegance. Beyond the standard dry white, the DOC includes Superiore and Riserva versions, as well as high-quality Spumante and a traditional, rare Passito style, all reflecting the region's long-standing viticultural heritage.
