Arcole
About the wine
The Arcole DOC, established in 2000, encompasses a diverse production area spanning the provinces of Verona and Vicenza in the Veneto region. This appellation is defined by its unique alluvial soils, characterized by sandy and clay-sandy compositions that differentiate it from the heavier soils of the surrounding plains. The DOC covers a wide range of styles, including still, frizzante, and spumante wines. Key varietals include Garganega, which serves as the backbone for the white wines, and Merlot, which anchors the red and 'Nero' typologies. The wines are generally noted for their approachable, medium-bodied profiles, with the sandy soils contributing to an elegant, fragrant aromatic character. The appellation also permits specialized versions such as Passito and Riserva, the latter requiring at least two years of aging. Arcole represents a significant historical viticultural zone, historically linked to the Adige river trade routes and the influence of the Republic of Venice.
