Garda
About the wine
The Garda DOC is a versatile and expansive denomination covering a wide range of styles, including still, frizzante, spumante, and passito wines. Spanning the provinces of Verona, Mantua, and Brescia, the appellation leverages the unique microclimate of the Lake Garda basin. The DOC is characterized by its broad ampelographic base, allowing for both international varieties like Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, and Merlot, and indigenous grapes such as Garganega and Corvina. The wines are generally defined by their freshness, aromatic clarity, and approachability, ranging from crisp, fruit-forward whites to structured, ruby-hued reds. The inclusion of passito versions adds a layer of complexity, showcasing the region's ability to produce concentrated, sweet, or dry dessert wines through traditional drying methods. It serves as a vital quality framework for the diverse viticultural landscape surrounding Italy's largest lake.

Production & aging
The production zone encompasses a vast territory around Lake Garda, spanning the provinces of Verona (including Soave, Bardolino, and Valpolicella areas), Mantua (Monzambano, Ponti sul Mincio), and Brescia (the entire western shore from Sirmione to Limone sul Garda). It covers a diverse landscape of morainic hills and lakeside slopes, benefiting from the temperate climate influenced by the lake.
