Colli Euganei
About the wine
The Colli Euganei DOC, located in the province of Padua, Veneto, is defined by its unique volcanic landscape. These conical hills, rising from the Po Valley, provide a Mediterranean-like microclimate with mild winters and warm, dry summers, ideal for viticulture. The appellation is remarkably diverse, covering a wide range of styles from crisp, sparkling Serprino (Glera) and aromatic Moscato to structured reds based on Bordeaux varieties like Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Carmenère. The white wines often feature Garganega, Tai, and Sauvignon, reflecting the region's versatility. The DOC is characterized by its hilly and pedecollinary terrain, excluding low-lying, peaty soils. The resulting wines are known for their distinct sapidity and elegance, with the Riserva versions of the red wines requiring a minimum of 24 months of aging to develop complexity and structure. It remains a significant expression of the Veneto region's ability to harmonize international varieties with local terroir.
