About the wine

The Corti Benedettine del Padovano DOC covers a diverse range of wines produced in the alluvial plains of southeastern Padua and parts of Venice. Historically reclaimed by Benedictine monks, this territory benefits from fertile, mineral-rich soils deposited by the Po, Adige, Bacchiglione, and Brenta rivers. The climate is temperate Mediterranean, tempered by Adriatic sea breezes that mitigate humidity. The appellation is notable for its versatility, encompassing a wide array of styles including crisp whites like Tai (Tocai Friulano), Sauvignon, and Pinot Grigio, as well as structured reds based on Merlot, Cabernet, and the traditional, acidic Raboso. The wines are characterized by a balance between the natural richness of the alluvial soils and the technical expertise of local producers, who utilize specific vineyard management techniques like 'baulatura' to optimize drainage. Whether produced as fresh, youthful wines or as more complex, wood-aged Riserva versions, the DOC reflects a long-standing viticultural heritage tied to the historic monastic estates of the region.
