Merlara
About the wine
The Merlara DOC, established in 2000, covers a fertile, flat alluvial plain in the provinces of Padua and Verona, shaped by the Adige and Fratta rivers. This appellation is characterized by its versatility, offering a wide range of varietal wines including Tai (Tocai Friulano), Malvasia, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Merlot, and Cabernet. The wines are generally noted for their approachability, clean aromatics, and balanced structure. Whites often exhibit a characteristic sapidity derived from sandy-alluvial soils, while reds—ranging from the light, aromatic Marzemino Frizzante to structured Merlot and Cabernet—benefit from the area's warm, temperate climate. The DOC also includes a Novello style produced via carbonic maceration. Modern viticultural practices, including careful site selection and irrigation management, ensure consistent quality across the diverse portfolio, resulting in wines that are both technically precise and reflective of their specific terroir.
