Piave Malanotte
About the wine
Piave Malanotte DOCG represents the pinnacle of the Raboso grape tradition in the Veneto region. Recognized in 2010, this wine is produced along the Piave river basin, where the unique combination of alluvial, gravel-rich soils and a temperate climate allows the late-ripening Raboso Piave and Raboso Veronese grapes to reach full maturity. The wine is defined by a mandatory appassimento process, where 15% to 30% of the grapes are dried, a technique that softens the naturally high acidity and aggressive tannins of the Raboso variety. The resulting wine is deep ruby red, often showing garnet hues with age, and is characterized by an austere, savory profile with distinct notes of marasca cherry, blackberry, and spice. It requires a minimum of 36 months of aging, including at least one year in wood, resulting in a complex, structured, and age-worthy red that balances rustic intensity with refined elegance.
