Riviera del Brenta
About the wine
The Riviera del Brenta DOC, established in 2004, encompasses a diverse viticultural area spanning the provinces of Padua and Venice, historically linked to the Brenta River basin. This region, characterized by alluvial soils and a continental climate tempered by maritime breezes, produces a wide array of wines ranging from crisp whites and sparkling spumante to structured reds. The white wines are often based on Tai (Tocai Friulano) or Chardonnay, while the reds rely on Merlot and Cabernet varieties, with specialized production of local grapes like Raboso and Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso. The wines are noted for their historical connection to the Venetian villas that dot the landscape, reflecting a long-standing tradition of viticulture. The DOC allows for various styles, including 'Riserva' designations for select reds, ensuring a balance between traditional techniques and modern quality standards. The resulting wines are typically fresh, harmonious, and representative of the unique terroir found between the Venetian lagoon and the Paduan plains.
